Nankei Pottery has been handcrafting pottery since 1913 in Mei, Japan
Pottery clay contains iron and has been used for making teapots since ancient times. The teapot is fired using a method that turns the iron black in colour without applying glaze. The fine irregularities on the interior surface reduce the bitterness from the tea, and making the brewed tea more mellow and delicious. By completing and baking the teapot at a high temperature, it does not transfer odors and can be used in brewing tea from a variety of tea leaves. The expression and colour of teapot changes and becomes richer gradually with use.
